Kai Stania
Austrian designer and architect Kai Stania works across furniture, product design and architecture. His approach brings aesthetics and functionality together, with close attention to proportion, ergonomics and construction resulting in furniture that is visually precise and practical to use.
Kai Stania: Precision, Function and Comfort
Born in Salzburg, Kai Stania studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology and industrial design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He later worked with Ron Arad in London before establishing his own design studio in 2002. His broad practice spans furniture, industrial design and architecture, bringing together aesthetic, functional and ergonomic considerations.
Stania's furniture demonstrates this approach in different ways. His seating for TON combines restrained forms with a strong focus on ergonomics and comfort, while his solid timber tables use geometric structures and precise proportions to create distinctive forms without unnecessary detail. Across both, function is treated as an integral part of the design rather than something considered separately from its appearance.
